The tour begins at the Patio de los Naranjos, the mosque's former ablutions courtyard. Here the guide explains Almohad-era Seville, when in 1146 the city became their capital and Caliph Yaqub ordered the Aljama Mosque built in 1170. This section points out the surviving galleries, the large underground cistern and the 12th-century Almohad plasterwork in the archway of the Puerta del Perdón.

From here you'll also understand the transition from minaret to Giralda. The guide explains the sebka panels, the lobed arches, the loss of the original yamur finial after the 1356 earthquake, and the Renaissance additions by Hernán Ruiz II, along with the 34 ramps.

Next, the tour enters the Gothic Cathedral. You'll hear about the 15th-century project and the Cathedral Chapter's 1401 decision to build a Christian temple over the mosque. Do I need ID for reduced rates?
Yes. Students and people over 65 must prove it with an original document. Photos or photocopies aren't accepted. If not presented, you'll need to pay the general rate. The student rate applies up to age 25.
Is the climb up the Giralda included, and what's it like inside?
Yes, the climb is included. You go up via 34 ramps and there are only 17 steps at the very end. There's no lift. If someone can't climb, they can wait at the Patio de los Naranjos and we regroup in 20 minutes.
Do you visit the Cathedral rooftops on this tour?
No. The rooftops are a separate visit managed by the Cathedral Chapter. It costs €16 extra, includes a hard hat, and must be booked on their website. If you're interested, we'll explain how to book it for another day at the end of the tour.
Does the ticket also include the Church of El Salvador?
No. The Church of El Salvador is a separate monument on Plaza del Salvador. Some Cathedral Chapter tickets may include it, but it's a separate visit and not part of this tour.
