GUIDED TOUR OF SEVILLE CATHEDRAL AND THE GIRALDA
Did you know Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic Christian cathedral in the world by floor area, at 76 metres wide and 116 metres long? UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1987 and, on 25 July 2010, a Site of Outstanding Universal Value.
On this guided tour you explore the temple starting at the Patio de los Naranjos, inherited from the former mosque, and understand how the Gothic cathedral was built on top of that past. Along the way you'll learn about key pieces and spaces such as the High Altarpiece, the Choir, chapels and sacristies that work like a genuine museum inside the temple, plus landmarks like the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
The visit also connects to the Giralda, the minaret turned bell tower, with its 34 ramps and a full explanation of why the tower became Seville's great symbol.
ITINERARY OF THE FULL CATHEDRAL AND GIRALDA TOUR

The tour begins at the Patio de los Naranjos, the mosque's former ablutions courtyard. Here the guide explains Almohad-era Seville, when in 1146 the city became their capital and Caliph Yaqub ordered the Aljama Mosque built in 1170. This section points out the surviving galleries, the large underground cistern and the 12th-century Almohad plasterwork in the archway of the Puerta del Perdón.

From here you'll also understand the transition from minaret to Giralda. The guide explains the sebka panels, the lobed arches, the loss of the original yamur finial after the 1356 earthquake, and the Renaissance additions by Hernán Ruiz II, along with the 34 ramps.

Next, the tour enters the Gothic Cathedral. You'll hear about the 15th-century project and the Cathedral Chapter's 1401 decision to build a Christian temple over the mosque. Inside, the guide explains the Gothic style and its pursuit of verticality and light through stained glass, along with the building's structural issue caused by the weight of the stone on clay soil and the historic collapses of the dome.

In the main area you'll visit sights such as the High Altarpiece, the Choir, the Chapel of San Antonio and the tomb of Christopher Columbus, learning about its journey before finally resting in Seville.

The tour continues through the sacristies, stopping at the Sacristy of the Chalices, the Main Sacristy, the Chapter House and the Antecabildo.

Accessibility
The tour is accessible in about 85% of the route. The Giralda is climbed via 34 step-free ramps, but has 17 final steps, so it's not wheelchair accessible. The Patio de los Naranjos has uneven cobbled paving. If you're using a wheelchair, let us know when booking so we can adapt the route.

Do I need ID for reduced rates?
Yes. Students and people over 65 must prove it with an original document. Photos or photocopies aren't accepted. If not presented, you'll need to pay the general rate. The student rate applies up to age 25.
Is the climb up the Giralda included, and what's it like inside?
Yes, the climb is included. You go up via 34 ramps and there are only 17 steps at the very end. There's no lift. If someone can't climb, they can wait at the Patio de los Naranjos and we regroup in 20 minutes.
Do you visit the Cathedral rooftops on this tour?
No. The rooftops are a separate visit managed by the Cathedral Chapter. It costs €16 extra, includes a hard hat, and must be booked on their website. If you're interested, we'll explain how to book it for another day at the end of the tour.
Does the ticket also include the Church of El Salvador?
No. The Church of El Salvador is a separate monument on Plaza del Salvador. Some Cathedral Chapter tickets may include it, but it's a separate visit and not part of this tour.
