Plaza del Salvador and the Mannerist façade. We start in the square that was the old cemetery until the 19th century. Your guide shows you the façade by Leonardo de Figueroa (1712) and its best-kept secret: the original horseshoe arches of the 9th-century mosque visible in the shops behind.

Patio de los Naranjos (former sahn). The only complete ablution courtyard from the 9th century that survives in Seville. Treasury Museum. Behind the high altar, we admire the processional trousseau of the Virgen de las Aguas, the Baroque monstrance, the 18th-century vestments and silverwork from the old collegiate church that rivalled the Cathedral.

The Brotherhood of El Rocío. We meet "La Lotera" (which processes on 22 December, lottery day), one of the six branches of Almonte in Seville. The original Simpecado and the 1950 replica by Sebastián Santos.

We finish in the upper sacristy with unique views over the rooftops of the Santa Cruz quarter. Your guide points out the Giralda, the Hospital de los Venerables and the old Jewish quarters. You can stay as long as you like photographing the interior.

The route begins in Plaza del Salvador, opposite the spectacular Mannerist façade. It is the nerve centre of Seville, where Sevillians have met for a vermouth for centuries.

The square has 2,000 years of history: Roman mansions, great mosque, medieval hospital, old cemetery (which is why it was called Plaza del Cementerio until the 19th century).

Their children, including Infanta María de las Mercedes (mother of the Count of Barcelona)

The crypt is not open to the general public; it is only accessible with authorised guided visits such as ours.

These Bourbons chose El Salvador because of their link with Seville and because the Cathedral no longer accepted royal burials.

Martínez Montañés is also buried here (according to tradition, though not documented), the sculptor of the Jesús de la Pasión venerated in the church.
